Mini Star
Free downloadA small 2-inch 3D peyote-stitch beaded star — five 'warped squares' of size-11 Delicas joined and stuffed into a hollow ornament. Free chart from Deb Moffett-Hall, restitched in a simplified two-colour DB923 / silver palette instead of the chart's four colours.

Mini Star by Deb Moffett-Hall (©2019, patternstobead.com) — a free starter pattern for 3D peyote warped stars, the technique where five flat “warped square” units made from beaded peyote stitch get assembled and stuffed into a hollow five-pointed star. The “warp” comes from how the herringbone-corner-and-peyote-side construction biases the square so it pulls into a diamond shape; five diamonds zip together into a star.
Worked in size 11 Miyuki Delicas on 4lb fireline thread, finishes around 2” point-to-point, takes about 1,015 beads total. Stuffed in the chart’s example with strips of plastic bag (the original-recipe trick to firm a beaded ornament without the stuffing showing through the gaps in the beadwork).
The chart calls for four colours — A (accent), B (dark), C (medium), D (light). I simplified the palette to two colours: DB923 as the colour bead and a silver Delica as the accent / herringbone-corner bead. The four-colour chart’s gradient effect across the star points compresses into a cleaner two-tone star, which suits a small ornament size better than the busier original.
Started and finished December 3, 2022 — a one-day project once the assembly rhythm clicks.
