Cocoa and Cookies by Lindsey Weight / Primrose Cottage Stitches — a small 54w × 54h holiday sampler that started life as a Free Stitch Friday newsletter freebie in December 2024. It’s still free if you subscribe to Primrose Cottage’s email list; if you don’t, it’s now sold as a paid PDF.

The design reads as a tidy little 3 × 3 grid of holiday motifs on a square ground: a steaming brown gingerbread mug of cocoa dead-centre with marshmallow dots and a wisp of steam, gingerbread cookies (a frosted tree, a heart, a small house) in the four corners, green holly wreaths and red-and-white candy canes alternating around the edges, and a scatter of small holly dots and red x’s running as a border.

Stitched from a Color and Cotton conversion — someone on Instagram (whose name I can’t track down anymore — credit if I find it again) reworked the original DMC chart into a Color and Cotton palette, and I liked their thread choices enough to do the same. Substituted the recommended fabric — Lindsey calls for 32ct Light Taupe Murano Lugana, I used 40ct Forbidden Fiber Co Under the Mistletoe Linen out of my stash, which is a warm pale sage-cream that makes the gingerbread browns sit a little softer than they would on the taupe Murano.

Started November 25, 2025. Finished December 1, 2025. FFO’d December 27, 2025 as a small red-backed pillow-style hanging ornament — finished with a red snowflake-print backing, edges trimmed to a fringed red border, and a twisted red-green-and-white baker’s-twine cord for hanging on the tree.
