Wintergreen — Santa
First of the three Wintergreen ornaments by Luminous Fiber Arts — a jolly waving Santa under a 'Ho Ho Ho' arc, finished as a hanging ornament with felt holly, jingle bells, and a 2023 charm. First of five Jingle Ball 2023 class finishes.

Wintergreen — Santa by Luminous Fiber Arts — the first of a three-ornament Wintergreen Christmas trio. The set is: this Santa (waving, Ho Ho Ho arching across the top), Prancer the reindeer, and a snow-covered pine-trees scene. I’ll be adding the other two as separate gallery entries.
This was the first of five class finishes I came home with from Jingle Ball 2023 — Luminous Fiber Arts taught the Wintergreen session at the event with kits provided. The other four are Santa’s Night Tree, the Candy Cane Biscornu, Specialty Stitches I, and the Jingle All the Way Block.
Stitched on 32ct Soft Tea Linen — a soft pale aqua-blue ground that reads as winter sky behind Santa, with the unstitched fabric doing all the background work. Cross stitch is 68w × 56h finished, plus a few back and long stitches and four fractional stitches per the chart spec.
Threads are a mix of DMC, Classic Colorworks, and Weeks Dye Works — the hand-dyed cottons (CC and Weeks) are subbed in for the reds and greens to give the Ho Ho Ho and Santa’s coat the kind of soft tonal variation overdyes give you, instead of flat solid DMC reds.
Finished as a round hanging ornament:
- Edged with a hand-twisted silver cord (worked from metallic thread) all the way around
- Felt holly leaves at the top in deep green wool felt
- Three red jingle bells clustered into the holly
- Tiny silver “2023” charm to date the piece
- Backed with a red-with-white-snowflakes cotton print so even the back is finished properly — visible when it spins on the tree
Finished November 5, 2023.
