Murder in the Pumpkin Patch

A partial stitch from Lola Crow's *Murder in the Pumpkin Patch* — just the jack-o'-lantern scarecrow and the crow stealing the pumpkin off its head — cropped from the full Halloween scene and finished as a small round ornament gift for a coworker.

Murder in the Pumpkin Patch by Lola Crow — a 2025 release that leans on the literal meaning of murder as the collective noun for crows. The full chart (144w × 104h, 25 DMC colours, originally on 32ct Picture This Plus Mirage) is a whole haunted-farm scene: a jack-o’-lantern-headed scarecrow in the field, a haunted barn with a skull weather vane, ghost chickens wandering the corn rows, a dead farmer, and overhead — the murder of crows the title is built around.

I didn’t stitch the whole thing. This is a partial — just the scarecrow’s jack-o’-lantern head and the lone crow swooping in to steal the pumpkin straight off the scarecrow’s shoulders, cropped out of the larger scene and treated as a self-contained vignette. I made it as a gift for a coworker who I knew would specifically love the crow-thieves-the-pumpkin moment, so the rest of the farm got cut and only the part that would make him laugh got stitched.

Substituted the recommended PTP Mirage for 32ct Fortnight Fabrics Fright Night in a warm peach-orange that reads as a foggy moonlit pumpkin-patch ground in this small a vignette.

FFO’d as a small round padded ornament — circular front, fringed charcoal-gray pile-fabric edge, black-and-silver beaded hanging cord, and a printed “Spooky Happy Halloween” gray-on-charcoal fabric back (black cats, bats, jack-o’-lanterns, scrollwork lettering). Tree-ornament scale.

Started and finished December 17, 2025 (same-day stitch). FFO’d December 27, 2025.
