Frogwarts Year 4

Frogwarts Year 4 by Kathryn Landis, released through The Black Needle Society — the fourth chart in the seven-part Frogwarts band sampler that mirrors the seven Harry Potter books, one band per year, dropped annually at The Black Needle Society’s Frogwarts online stitching retreat. Year 4 was released at the July 2023 retreat and tracks Goblet of Fire.

The full band reads as a Year-4 catalogue of references, against a backdrop of chunky green hedges that double as the Triwizard Tournament’s Third Task maze:

• A goblet with blue flame — the Goblet of Fire itself, the magical artefact that selects the Triwizard champions (and unexpectedly spits out a fourth name).
• “Stupefy” in yellow script — the Stunning Spell, used heavily in the Third Task and the graveyard scene.
• A small black cauldron — Voldemort’s resurrection cauldron in the Little Hangleton graveyard.
• A central Hungarian Horntail dragon curled around her golden egg — the First Task, where Harry has to retrieve the egg from the most dangerous of the four dragons.
• A small orange pumpkin — Halloween, when the Goblet selects the champions.
• A blue carriage with yellow wheels — the Beauxbatons carriage, drawn by Madame Maxime’s giant Abraxan winged horses.
• A tall brown Abraxan horse — one of those carriage horses (the ones that drink only single-malt whisky).
• A red-and-cream wand box — Ollivander’s, used in the Wand Weighing ceremony before the tournament.
• A purple “Potter Stinks” badge — Draco’s mass-produced flair.
• “Accio” in green script — the Summoning Charm, Hermione drills Harry on it for weeks so he can Accio Firebolt during the dragon task.
• A blue band running underneath the whole scene with the year’s signature line — “What’s comin’ will come, an’ we’ll meet it when it does” — Hagrid, near the end of the book to Harry, Ron, and Hermione about Voldemort’s return.

Same continuous piece of 32ct Picture This Plus Heartland as the rest of the sampler — the Year 3 band sits directly above this one and the Year 5 band directly below. The remaining Years 6 and 7 will be added beneath as they release. Year 7 releases at the July 2026 retreat, which will complete the set.

Started June 2023 (during the Year 4 retreat). Got close to finishing during the retreat itself but didn’t quite make it — finished July 14, 2024, during the following year’s Year 5 retreat. 12,502 stitches for this band alone.
