Frogwarts Border

My own Padfoot pawprint border for the seven-part Frogwarts band sampler — a one-colour dotted frame that runs around every year's band so Sirius's animagus tracks stay with the whole sampler from Year 1 through Year 7. Free download.

Frogwarts Border by me — a free pattern I designed to frame The Black Needle Society’s seven-part Frogwarts band sampler series by Kathryn Landis. The Frogwarts charts themselves only cover the year-by-year content bands (one band per Harry Potter book, released annually at The Black Needle Society’s online retreat); they don’t ship with a unifying frame. So I made one.

The border is Padfoot’s pawprints — Sirius Black’s animagus form’s tracks — running as a dotted single-colour band along the top and bottom of every year’s band, plus a vertical run down each side. The thinking is that Sirius is the emotional thread holding the whole story together: he turns up in Year 3 as the supposed villain, becomes Harry’s godfather in Year 4, goes into hiding through Year 5 at 12 Grimmauld Place, dies at the end of Year 5, and his memory carries forward through Years 6 and 7. Padfoot’s tracks framing every band is a small visual nod to that — he was always here, around all of it.

Stitch count: 6,504 for the full border across every band, including the framing for the still-unstitched Year 7 panel at the bottom (visible in the photo as the empty rectangle). Year 7 releases at the July 2026 retreat — the border was already up and waiting for it as of January 2026.

Same fabric as the rest of the sampler — the whole thing is on a single continuous piece of 32ct Picture This Plus Heartland so the border reads as one unbroken Padfoot trail across all seven years. One colour of DMC throughout.
