Frogwarts Year 6
Year 6 of Kathryn Landis's seven-part Frogwarts band sampler — the Half-Blood Prince year. Slughorn's potion bottles, Diagon Alley, Levicorpus, Felix Felicis, the Vanishing Cabinets, the Gaunt ring, the Dark Mark, Fawkes flying away, the Slytherin locket, Sectumsempra, and Dumbledore's closing line. Padfoot pawprint border is my own free-pattern addition.

Frogwarts Year 6 by Kathryn Landis, released through The Black Needle Society — the sixth chart in the seven-part Frogwarts band sampler that mirrors the seven Harry Potter books, one band per year, dropped annually at The Black Needle Society’s Frogwarts online stitching retreat. Year 6 was released at the July 2025 retreat and tracks Half-Blood Prince.
The full band reads as a Year-6 catalogue of references, left-to-right:
- A row of Slughorn’s potion bottles — including the rose-pink swirl of Amortentia (the most powerful love potion in the world) and a small bottle of Felix Felicis (“Liquid Luck”), which Slughorn awards to Harry and which Harry then uses on the Slughorn-memory night.
- A blue shopfront and a tall red building with awnings — Diagon Alley, with what reads as Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes (Fred and George’s joke shop, in full operation this year).
- “Levicorpus” in green script — one of the spells scribbled in the margins of Harry’s secondhand Potions textbook by the Half-Blood Prince, used by James Potter on Snape in the Pensieve memory.
- A bottle of Felix Felicis in a small framed motif — Harry’s prize.
- Two tall black Vanishing Cabinets — Draco’s year-long secret project, repairing the broken cabinet at Hogwarts to pair it with the matching one in Borgin & Burkes so the Death Eaters can walk straight into the school.
- A gold ring with a black stone above the cabinets — the Gaunt ring, the Resurrection Stone hidden inside, the Horcrux Dumbledore destroys (which kills his hand).
- A fiery phoenix in red and orange — Fawkes, flying away from Hogwarts after Dumbledore’s death; we never see him again.
- A small Slytherin locket — the Horcrux locket Harry and Dumbledore retrieve from the cave (which turns out to have been swapped by RAB — Regulus Arcturus Black — and is a fake).
- A Dark Mark in green and purple — the snake-and-skull cast in the sky over the Astronomy Tower after Snape kills Dumbledore.
- “Sectumsempra” in red script — another Half-Blood Prince marginalia spell, the one Harry uses on Draco in Moaning Myrtle’s bathroom (and which we later learn was Snape’s own invention — for enemies).
- A blue band running across the top of the scene with the year’s signature line — “Let us step into the night and pursue that flighty temptress, Adventure” — Dumbledore, leaving Hogwarts with Harry to retrieve the locket from the cave. Yes, sir.
- The Padfoot pawprint border running across this band — see the Frogwarts Border entry for the freebie’s backstory; the pattern is free on this site.
Same continuous piece of 32ct Picture This Plus Heartland as the rest of the sampler — the Year 5 band sits directly above this one. The empty Year 7 panel waits below — Year 7 releases at the July 2026 retreat, which will complete the set.
Started June 29, 2025. Finished July 9, 2025 — during the Year 6 retreat itself, ten days flat. 12,443 stitches for this band alone.
