Year three of the tradition — one Monster Hunter monster, stitched for my husband, every year. Rathalos came after Zinogre and Mizutsune.

Rathalos is the King of the Skies — a Flying Wyvern that’s been the face of Monster Hunter since the very first game in 2004. Red-scaled, fire-breathing, poison-clawed, and almost always on the box art. If a new player has a moment with the series, it’s usually a Rathalos fight: the dive-bomb attacks, the constant pressure to keep an eye on the air, and that signature roar that tells you exactly which monster just showed up. Pair him with Rathian (his queen counterpart) and you have the closest thing the series has to mascots.

The pattern is based on Rathalos’ in-game icon — same stylized silhouette treatment Capcom uses to mark monsters on the menu, matching the Mizutsune and Zinogre pieces. Framed in the same chunky weathered wood so the trio reads as a set on the wall.
