Frogwarts Year 2
Year 2 of Kathryn Landis's seven-part Frogwarts band sampler — the Chamber of Secrets year. The Burrow, the flying Ford Anglia, mandrakes, Expelliarmus, Dobby, the Pipes, Tom Riddle's diary, the Basilisk, Fawkes, 'Enemies of the Heir Beware', and Dumbledore's closing line. Padfoot pawprint border is my own free-pattern addition.

Frogwarts Year 2 by Kathryn Landis, released through The Black Needle Society — the second chart in the seven-part Frogwarts band sampler that mirrors the seven Harry Potter books, one band per year, dropped annually at The Black Needle Society’s Frogwarts online stitching retreat. Year 2 was released at the July 2021 retreat and tracks Chamber of Secrets.
The full band reads as a Year-2 catalogue of references, left-to-right:
- The Burrow — the Weasleys’ rambling crooked many-story house, where Harry spends part of the summer after Ron, Fred, and George rescue him from his locked room at Privet Drive.
- The flying blue Ford Anglia — Mr Weasley’s enchanted car, used to fly Harry and Ron to Hogwarts after Dobby seals the platform barrier, and which later saves them from Aragog’s children in the Forbidden Forest.
- A screaming mandrake with deep roots — the second-year Herbology lesson with Professor Sprout, used at the climax to brew the Mandrake Restorative Draught for the Petrified students.
- “Expelliarmus” in orange script — the Disarming Charm, on display at Lockhart’s disastrous Duelling Club (where Harry first learns he’s a Parselmouth).
- Dobby — the house-elf in the pillowcase, trying to “save” Harry by spectacularly inconvenient methods all year.
- A small camera — Colin Creevey, the first-year photographer who ends up Petrified while trying to photograph Harry.
- A potted mandrake sapling and small scuttling spiders — the spiders fleeing the castle that tip Harry and Ron off to follow them into the forest.
- A small “PIPES” sign — Slytherin’s monster moves through the school’s plumbing, and the entrance to the Chamber is hidden in Moaning Myrtle’s bathroom.
- Tom Riddle’s diary — the enchanted book that possesses Ginny all year and serves as the Horcrux Harry destroys in the Chamber with a Basilisk fang.
- A massive green Basilisk with a flash of red Fawkes the Phoenix at her mouth — Slytherin’s monster, killed in the Chamber by Harry with the Sword of Gryffindor (after Fawkes blinds her so the deadly gaze can’t take Harry out).
- A green serpentine banner reading “ENEMIES OF THE HEIR BEWARE” — the message written in blood on the corridor wall by the petrifier.
- A decorative striped band running underneath the whole scene with the year’s signature line — “Help will always be given at Hogwarts to those who ask for it” — Dumbledore, in his office to Harry after the events in the Chamber.
- The Padfoot pawprint border running across this band — see the Frogwarts Border entry for the freebie’s backstory; the pattern is free on this site.
Same continuous piece of 32ct Picture This Plus Heartland as the rest of the sampler — the Year 1 band sits directly above this one and the Year 3 band directly below. Year 7 releases at the July 2026 retreat, which will complete the set.
Started January 14, 2024. Finished December 29, 2025. 11,325 stitches for this band alone.
